Tears Gone By

I have tried,
More than I can admit.

From times gone by
To the times that lie ahead;
Loss of precious gems and worldly pleasures,
The fear of being reduced to rags;
The disappearance of those
Who I embrace for warmth
And courage;
Leaving what I know of the world
And embracing the unknown beyond it;
Pain from wounds and scars
Or just mental anguish;
All these demons tugged at;
All the demons have failed.

For what was once a pond,
Ready to quench the thirst of every occasion,
Is now a part of sandy deserts,
Succumbed to heat and other earthly perils.

I bleed but I cry without tears.
